Wyoming Wilderness Pack Trips

Our four-night wilderness pack trips take place from mid-July through mid-August. They give you the chance to hike, practice your horsemanship skills, catch some gorgeous trout, and take in the splendor of Wyoming’s backcountry.
The terrain includes high alpine bowls, boulder fields, rocky slides, and timber areas with elevations ranging from 7,000-10,000 feet.
Visit areas where we’ve historically found and recently located elk, deer, antelope, moose, sheep, and bear.
Fly fish for a variety of trout, including Yellowstone cutthroat, Bonneville cutthroat, rainbow, brook, and lake trout.
ALICE LAKE PACK TRIP
Fun and Leisurely Pack trip
The Lake Alice pack trip is a wonderful option for first timers to the backcountry who like creature comforts and a little less time in the saddle. It’s also an essential trip for serious fly-fishers looking to complete their Wyoming Cutt Slam with the only known pure strain of naturally reproducing Bonneville cutthroat trout!
Lake Alice is the largest natural lake found in the western portion of Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest. The lake lies at 7,745 feet elevation and is surrounded by a national forest and several species of wildlife including elk, moose, and mule deer.
A Day in Camp
The Lake Alice Pack trip sets out from Tri Basin Divide trailhead. We saddle the horses and ride out for about 2.5 hours to camp where you’ll sleep for the duration of your trip. Each morning, we get started around 8 am when your guides get the horses ready, and we all discuss plans over breakfast. Your itinerary on this trip is up to you! Day trip opportunities include fly fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing on horseback or just hanging out at camp. Species of wildlife likely to be seen on the Lake Alice trip include elk, mule deer, black bear, and Shiras moose. Lake Alice is remarkable in that it is home to the only known pure lake strain of naturally reproducing Bonneville cutthroat trout. Fish from the shore or get out on the lake on a boat or a tube. If you’re a serious fly-fisher this is the place to complete your Wyoming Cutt Slam!
SOUTH BUFFALO FORK PACK TRIP
A Versatile, Varied Pack trip
Our South Buffalo Fork pack trip begins from Brooks Lake Trailhead at an elevation of 9,050 ft. above sea level and is surrounded by the unbelievable beauty of Pinnacle Buttes in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. This trip includes a moderate amount of time on horseback and explores the terrain along the South Buffalo Fork River including Terrace Mountain, South Fork Falls, Pendergraft Peak, and Crater Lake.
On this versatile pack trip, we always sleep at least two nights in the same camp, so guests can take a day in camp to relax by the river, hike, or a short horseback ride up the mountain to view wildlife or fly-fishing for several species of trout including Rainbow, Brown and Brook Trout. The highlights of evenings in camp include old-fashioned Dutch oven meals and campfire stories.
A Day in Camp
Morning & Afternoon
Mornings begin around 8:00 am, at which time your guides will already be catching, feeding, and saddling horses if needed for that day. We meet for a hearty breakfast; pack your lunch and discuss plans for the day. After breakfast, you and your guide ride up the trails on horseback for a full day of fly fishing, trail riding, wildlife viewing, or hiking. Once we reach a vantage point we stop for lunch and relax. For wildlife viewing, our time and effort is focused on areas where we have historically found and recently located elk, deer, moose, sheep, and black bear. We spend time glassing and locating wildlife with binoculars and can hike or ride to a vista for photos.

Guides will have you back in camp at sunset, at which time the cook will have your meal prepared. Kick your boots off and tell stories of the day over a hearty supper in the dinner tent.
