Location:             New Mexico

Methods:             Rifle or Archery

Dates:                  September-December

If you’re looking for a true, free range BIG bull, our elk hunts in New Mexico are what you’re looking for.

ARCHERY

Our New Mexico archery elk hunts takes place in September during the pre-rut through the middle stages of the rut. These hunts definitely present some of the best opportunities to kill the some of the biggest bulls in our areas. The bulls are typically very vocal during this period which can make for exciting and action packed hunts.

In 2004 one of our archery hunters killed an incredible bull that gross scored 427″ P&Y and became the new New Mexico state record at the time. That record held until 2015 when another one of our archery hunters killed an unbelievable bull gross scoring 440″ P&Y. Both of these bulls are among the top ten non-typical bulls ever harvested in the world with a bow.

RIFLE

Our New Mexico Rifle Elk Hunts takes place in Unit 12 which is in Western New Mexico. We control access to over 500,000 contiguous acres of ranches in the unit.

Our public land hunts are obtained through the draw process or by purchasing a “unit-wide” landowner tag, while our private ranch hunts are obtained by purchasing one of our guaranteed “ranch only” landowner permits.

All of these hunts start at the beginning of October and run through the end of December.

The October hunts occur during the rut cycle while the bulls are bugling and running with herds of cows.

The November and December hunts are considered late season hunts and bulls are typically in bachelor groups.

Both rut and late season hunts have very high success and there are unique advantages to hunting each of the different seasons.

Antonello M.
An elk hunt has been high on my list for many years. Erin took the time to listen and find the perfect hunt for me. He helped me every step of the way, and I travelled all the way to the US and got a beautiful 6-point bull. Thank you Erin and Tru Flight Adventures!
