Montana Black Bear Hunts
(Hound Hunt)

Species:               Black bear

Location:             Montana

Methods:             Rifle or Archery

Dates:                  April 15th-May 31st (Spring)

Our spring black bear hunts are 5-day excursions that utilize our exceptional hounds. As with all our hunts, these hound hunts require a good level of physical fitness, so please prepare yourself accordingly to maximize your chances of success.

Each day begins with a hearty breakfast, followed by loading the dogs and gear into our vehicles. The dogs operate based on scent, so we drive along the mountain roads, waiting for them to “strike.” Once they pick up a scent, we release them to follow it until they catch up with the bear.

Each bear reacts differently to the hounds. Some bears will quickly climb trees or enter dens, while others may lead us on a long chase without ever climbing a tree. Every chase is unique.

Our hunting area is abundant with bears, with about 30% being in color phase. We often encounter good-sized bears averaging around 5.5-6.5 feet in length. The hunts will take place both from a truck and then on foot.
