Hippo And Crocodile Hunting Trips

Species:            Hippo and Crocodile

Location:           Namibia

Methods:           Rifle

Dates:                 February-October

We offer hippo and crocodile hunts mainly in the Kwando, Chobe and Zambezi rivers. During hippo hunts, we normally use a boat to access the specific areas in the river where the hippo resides. Crocodile hunts can also be conducted from a boat, or we sometimes stalk a specific crocodile from the land. Hippos are hunted from the shoreline.

If you are fortunate to encounter some hippos out basking in the sun during a hunt, the retrieval process is much easier than shooting one in the water.  When hunting hippos in the water, the perfect shot must be performed by the hunter, ensuring a quick kill.  Wounding a hippo in the water can mean not recovering the hippo, as they escape using aquatic vegetation, and a dangerous situation for the hunting party.

Crocodiles are large, cold-blooded reptiles that have been around since prehistoric times.  These giant lizards lie around most of the day absorbing the warm sun rays.  Once energized, they become a cunning predator.  They have an acute sense of hearing and are difficult to hunt.  They can be hunted while basking on a sandbank, or by baiting them with rotten carcasses.
